
<p>Today, we are excited to announce that private token swaps are live in the <a target="_blank" href="https://elusiv.io/">Elusiv WebApp</a>. This means that you can swap between a number of assets without revealing any identifying information about yourself. This is a first for <a target="_blank" href="https://medium.com/u/af6a22150fa9">Solana</a>, infusing the beginnings of private DeFi in the ecosystem, bringing better security guarantees for users and traders.</p>
<h3>Why private token swaps?</h3>
<p>Current decentralized exchanges (DEXs) are entirely transparent. Any third party can see everything from a user’s balance to their trade history. Private token swaps circumvent a significant amount of counterparty risk by encrypting a user’s public key. A user wanting to swap assets can do so with complete privacy, as token pairs and amounts can never link to a user’s wallet address. This increases users’ security, especially those making frequent swaps or exchanging large quantities. Furthermore, profit and loss fluctuations and trading strategies can’t be linked to a wallet, establishing better conditions for traders wanting to keep their identities private.</p>
<h3>Understanding private token swaps</h3>
<p>To enable private token Swaps, Elusiv uses temporary keys to break the link between a user’s public key and their transaction. After a user initiates a token swap via the Elusiv Webapp, a temporary key pair is generated, which will be used as the secondary signer of the transaction. The input token and SOL (for fees) are sent to the temporary key pair from there. The output token is received, and the user’s private balance is topped up.</p>
<p>By unlinking the user’s public key and the swap transaction, Elusiv enables complete user privacy. The temporary key pair acts as the ‘sender’ of the transaction, effectively removing any association with the user’s original public wallet address. After the user’s private balance is topped up, they can send tokens from their private balance to any Solana wallet without revealing their public key.</p>
<p>Elusiv’s swaps will be powered by the <a target="_blank" href="https://station.jup.ag/docs/apis/swap-api">Jupiter API</a>, Solana’s leading swap aggregator, with the best price and overall UX. Users can now access deep liquidity without a tradeoff for privacy.</p>

<p>Currently, most token swaps and trades happen in the public eye. DEXs, across different ecosystems, suffer from being transparent by default. Although DeFi has revolutionized how assets trade, the lack of privacy often leads to users being targeted based on their portfolio (token balances) and trading history. This inherent weakness is one of the leading causes of arbitrage and manipulation. As a result, DeFi is often positioned as high-risk, hindering mainstream adoption.</p>
<p>Private token swaps represent a vital foundation for the future of DeFi on Solana and beyond. This fundamental feature instills more security for DeFi users in the ecosystem, creating a ripe environment for growth and innovation. <p>Solana embodies the essence of innovation and development. A driven community of developers combined with the Solana Foundation’s hands-on stewardship helps optimize the entire ecosystem’s advancement. This program is designed to enhance the current Token Program on Solana by adding new features to increase token functionality through extensions. Extensions enable token creators and developers to tailor different aspects of a token’s capabilities.</p>

<p>One of the extensions deployed via the Token2022 program is called ‘Confidential Transfers.’ This extension addresses privacy concerns on-chain, a pervasive and complex issue throughout the entire Web3 space. Confidential Transfers effectively encrypt token balances and transfer amounts using zero-knowledge proofs. Beyond improving privacy for on-chain activity, this extension helps standardize privacy within the ecosystem, allowing easy integration of encryption for a token by default.</p>
<h3>Understanding Confidential Transfers vs. Private Transfers</h3>
<p>Privacy is a crucial pillar for blockchains to reach mass adoption. Confidential Transfers takes a significant step in this direction, especially when combined with the performance and affordability provided by Solana. However, for builders and users, highlighting how comprehensive the privacy guarantees enabled by this extension are vital. Privacy, in this case, is applied to token balances and amounts. It does not encrypt the associated public key, meaning all on-chain activities and interactions still link to a user’s public address.</p>
<p>For example, suppose one is sending a token fitted with this extension to a business partner. In this case, Confidential Transfers encrypt the amount you send, but the interaction is broadcasted to the whole chain. However, private transfers, like the ones enabled by <a target="_blank" href="https://elusiv.io/">Elusiv</a>, encrypts the public key associated with a specific token, providing complete privacy for the user.</p>
<p>Privacy is about people, and confidentiality is about information.</p>
<h3>Token2022 x Elusiv: Privacy’s Ultimate Combo</h3>
<p>Confidential Transfers and Elusiv’s comprehensive privacy guarantees are exciting developments for the Solana ecosystem. First, tokens can be primed via the Confidential Transfers extension and used in Elusiv to provide full privacy for both the sender and the amount. In addition, the standardization of Confidential Transfers across different tokens substantially increases privacy guarantees for all tokens used on Elusiv (or any wallet and application that has integrated the <a target="_blank" href="https://github.com/elusiv-privacy/elusiv-sdk">Elusiv SDK</a>). <p>We are excited to announce the official release of the <a target="_blank" href="https://elusiv-privacy.github.io/elusiv-sdk/">Elusiv SDK</a> (in public beta) on Solana. As the first fully open-source, privacy-centric SDK on Solana mainnet, it will give developers access to various privacy features that can be easily integrated into new and existing applications. Since privacy is a prerequisite for mass adoption, this will bring the entire community closer to realizing this goal.</p>
<h3>Making privacy normal</h3>
<p>Privacy remains one of the biggest challenges in Web3. It is an arduous topic in the social and political spheres. Moreover, it’s a complex problem to solve technologically, as it requires the knowledge and application of advanced cryptographic techniques. Elusiv aims to tackle the privacy challenge, considering the implications present in each realm. With the release of the Elusiv SDK, privacy is now programmable. Developers can access various privacy features without reasoning through complex cryptography (both on Solana mainnet and devnet). <p>The main idea of Elusiv is that you have a private balance on-chain, from which you can send money and receive money while maintaining your privacy i.e., without anyone being able to see your associated public key. Therefore, the two core operations you can perform on your private balance are topping it up with funds and sending funds from your private balance.</p>
<p>The most important part of the SDK is the Elusiv class, which provides all methods needed to easily and portably interact with the on-chain program.</p>

<p>Elusiv, is a Zero-Knowledge-based compliant privacy protocol and we have recently secured $3.5 million in our seed funding round led by Staking Facilities Ventures and LongHash Ventures. The proceeds will be used to build out our development team, fund security audits, and bring our solution to multiple blockchains.</p>
<p>Other investors include Jump Crypto, NGC Ventures, Big Brain Holdings, Anagram, Cogitent Ventures, Equilibrium, Marin Ventures, Token Ventures, Moonrock Capital, Monke Ventures, SolanaFM as well as several angels, including the founders of Solana, Zeta, Notify, Solflare, FMFW.io and UXD Protocol.</p>
<p>“<em>Financial privacy is a requirement for individual freedom. However, advancing the adoption and acceptance of privacy-preserving tech also requires capable compliance. ZK and new decentralized technologies allow us to overcome the notion that privacy and compliance are exclusive and instead enable us to form a new kind of symbiosis between privacy and compliance</em>,” said Elusiv co-founder Yannik Schrade.</p>
<p>Elusiv aims to become the backbone of the blockchain financial ecosystem — providing everyday users and merchants with privacy while still maintaining safety through low-trade-off compliance solutions. It will make standard transactions private and, at the same time, give users the freedom to choose which transactions to make public using Elusiv.</p>
<p>LongHash Ventures’ General Partner and Chief Operations Officer Wei Shi Khai said, “<em>Privacy is a human right worth protecting, and has been a persistent pain point in Web3. <p>The Elusiv protocol comes with full composability. This means Elusiv can directly be integrated into wallets and protocols with the added benefit of working even if only one party is using it to maintain their privacy. That’s a significant advantage over existing solutions requiring both parties to use the same service. For example, if Alice wants to send money privately, the recipient, Bob, does not necessarily need to use Elusiv. Likewise, Bob could receive funds privately without Alice using Elusiv.</p>
<p>Louis Bauer, Venture Partner at Staking Facilities Ventures, said,<em> “Elusiv is building the ground layer for more sensitive transactions to happen on-chain. Enabling privacy in a compliant manner so blockchains can eventually gain wider adoption. <p>To provide compliance, Elusiv has invented various new compliance systems, utilizing Zero-Knowledge proofs and advanced cryptography. On the most basic level, Elusiv allows users to give third parties insight into their private transactions and assets by either sharing individual transaction viewing keys or by appointing so-called trusted third parties (TTPs) to view all transactions. Users can additionally prove to third parties that their transactions have not been sent, for example, by a known malicious actor, all with one or two button clicks.</p>
<p>On top of that, Elusiv’s advanced compliance system uses a decentralized network of trusted execution environments (TEEs) to achieve a consensus over malicious actors. Bad actors do not lose control over their funds but cannot gain privacy through Elusiv. The fact that the system allows to disclose transactions of malicious actors retroactively makes it unattractive for them to use Elusiv in the first place and thus provides safety for every other user.</p>
<p>We also plan to introduce “Elusiv Virtual Machines” to let developers use Zero-Knowledge Proofs for their applications without worrying about the complex cryptography involved. It means developers will be able to build their own ZK applications in a fraction of the time with a fraction of the cost.</p>
